Military Spouse Eyes Career Advancement
There are doubtless many people like Jakayla who find being a military spouse to be a great adventure, but one that comes with challenges.
Jakayla grew up in New Mexico, earned a bachelor’s degree and MBA, and worked in higher education and public relations, and loved her current role in training and development.
However, since her husband’s career required frequent moves from base to base, Jakayla had to find employment at every stop. They often moved to small towns that did not have career options in her fields of expertise, requiring her to make do with whatever job she could find. It was hard for her to get work experience in business and build her resume to gain her desired level of employment.
Goodwill Career Services proved to be a great resource for Jayakla to chart a path forward. Working with her Goodwill career coach, Jakayla explored her prior experience, goals, and options for her next step. The resources and financial support provided by the Goodwill led to specialty training needed for promotional opportunities in her field.
Jakayla is now completing her Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM), a formal certification for project practitioners. “It was so encouraging to see this organization come together with the military and their families to give us the best possible options for success,” she said. “I am grateful for their support.”
Goodwill led Jakayla to professional certification.
