Military Spouse Taps Grant for CNA Training
When Chelsea sought help and direction from Goodwill in May 2021, she was unsure of herself. The spouse of a U.S. Air Force service member, she has been laid off from her full-time job over a year ago when her office closed due to the pandemic. She received unemployment and was able to find part-time work but wanted to do more to help people.
Chelsea had heard of NV Hope’s certified nursing assistant (CNA) training program. While she had prior experience in a medical setting, she had no certification, so the prospect of having her training fully funded inspired her to reach out to Goodwill, NV Hope’s CNA training partner, for guidance.
Her Goodwill Veteran Services career coach enrolled Chelsea into the Dislocated Worker’s Grant, a program designed to assist veterans and spouses of active duty with training and employment. The grant enabled Chelsea to attend the Goodwill CNA Bootcamp—a first step toward formal CNA training, which she completed in September of 2021.
Throughout her training, Chelsea was highly regarded by her trainers and recognized at NV HOPE as one of the program’s emerging leaders. Filled with newfound confidence, Chelsea was eager to advance. “I look forward to a long and successful career in the medical field,” she said. “Thank you, Goodwill, for all the help and guidance!”
Goodwill funded Chelsea’s launch into nursing.
